Dual Temperature Pre-Insulated Pipe Supports
Rilco Manufacturing recently fabricated dual temperature pre-insulated pipe shoes for a local ethylene plant. The pipe supports will be used primarily for a cryogenic pipe line. However, at times certain phases of the chemical process will include high temperature fluid flowing through the pipe. In order to eliminate the risk of deterioration of the polyurethane foam, a layer of Pyrogel® XTE insulation was included in the design, thus creating a dual temperature pipe shoe that supports both the high temperature and cryogenic processes.
The entire job included a wide range of diameters, with some designs featuring two base plates that will restrain the piping at two different positions, like the ones shown below.
Rilco was among the companies that pioneered the polyurethane pipe supports which are now used industry-wide. The insulation can be molded to the thickness and layering of process line insulation to ensure proper field fit per ASTM C585.
Traditional polyurethane supports are applicable in low temperature environments down to -350 degrees F. Condensation is eliminated along with the associated field corrosion problems. Temperature fluctuation at the support point of process fluids is eliminated, and designs can be customized for specialized client specifications or loading requirements as the dual temperature ones discussed above.
